Security guards luck with Lipa Na Mpesa


Safaricom launched the Lipa Na Mpesa promotion on 8th January which will run till 8th March. To enter the promotion, all you need to do is use Lipa Na Mpesa anytime you pay your bills. It can be either PayBill or Buy Goods and Services. For the eight weeks, the promotion will be ongoing, Safaricom will reward customers from eight regions.

Third winner

Joseph Kipkurui, a security guard from Burnt forest, has become the third Lipa Na Mpesa winner.  He was gifted a three-bedroom apartment in Riruta Dagoretti. Joseph is a 36-year-old father of two who works as a security guard in St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Burnt Forest. He has worked there for four years.

Joseph said that he uses Lipa Na Mpesa to pay his Chama and that he hasn’t been very keen on the entries he has been getting every time he pays his bills. He added that it came as a shock to him when he received the call that informed him of the win.

Joseph said that he feels really blessed because his wife had just delivered a bouncing baby boy a few weeks before the call came.

In the grand finale, customers will win a 12 tonne Fuso FI trucks and tractors equipped with a plough and a trailer.

During the launch, the chief customer officer, Safaricom Sylvia Mulinge said that; Mpesa has become one of the preferred ways of receiving cashless payments due to its convenience and peace of mind it offers to shoppers and businesses.

Other winners

The second promotion winner was a thirty-nine years old quarry worker. Samuel Gathiru lives in Naro Moro and was gifted a three-bedroom apartment in Riruta. He told the media that he had been living in a single room which he paid 450 ksh a month. Samuel added that in an ordinary day, he would make 180 ksh from the sales of stones or 300 ksh in a good day.

Samuel plans to lease the house as an additional source of income.

Reuben Keitany, a police officer in Kwale, was the first winner of the Lipa NA Mpesa promotion. He also got a three-bedroom house in Nairobi Riruta. Keitany has five children and a wife; he plans on keeping the house as a family home. Reuben is a second time Safaricom winner. In 2017, Mr Keitany won a Neon 4 smartphone.

A total of 80 businesses have won Tuktuks since the launch of the Lipa Na Mpesa promotion.
