The ”Warren Buffet” of China

Li Ying, a Chinese investor, is mostly referred to as the female ”Warren Buffet of China”.She is a young female millionaire and one of China’s richest women who powered Jack Ma’s Yunfeng Capital to Silicon Valley success.

Jack Ma asked Li three times in 2010 to move from Silicon Valley to run Yunfeng Capital which is Ma’s private equity firm. Li agreed and became one of the co-founders, along with David. The firm majorly focuses on high-tech and new energy enterprises.

Little is known about her worth, but Chinese media suggest that her total assets amount to more than 10 billion yuan(US 1.4 billion dollars). She is known to be a superfan of supercars and has a collection of a Bently, a Mercedes- Maybach and a coveted red convertible Rolls-Royce Phantom. Li was born in Shenzhen, China. Her parents suggested that she relocates to the US on an agreement that she be allowed to skip some grades.

She was more advanced than her peers, and at the age of 17, she was accepted by MIT, Yale and Stanford. She chose to join MIT and completed her studies in three years. She acquired a Bachelor of Science, Computer Science, Bachelor of Economics and a Masters degree in electronic engineering and computer science at the age of 20.

Her first job was as a management consultant at McKinsey and Company in Silicon Valley. She worked for top Wall Street investment firms such as Ikano, UT and KPCB for over a decade and rose to ranks. This was when Jack Ma recognized her.

As Alibaba was looking to expand, Jack Ma was impressed by her resume and work experience. He then persuaded her to join him at Yunfeng Capital. She became the general manager of the board of directors and was responsible for investment in high-tech. She has made the firm grow. Sources said that she left the firm last year and founded her firm.
