- Former Kakamega senator criticised his fellow Deputy President William Ruto-allied lawmaker Aaron Cheruiyot for terming the 2022 election a Nilotes’s derby
- Khalwale warned that such reckless ethnic utterances risk reversing all the gains made by Ruto in courting non-Nilotic voting blocks
- Senator Cheruiyot has since deleted the post after much uproar from Kenyans on the social media platform
Former Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale has criticised Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot for saying the 2022 election will be between ethnic Nilotic speakers.

In a statement on Twitter, Khalwale termed the sentiments by Cheruiyot as reckless and risked reversing gains made by Deputy President William Ruto in wooing the non-Nilotic voting block.
Khalwale reminded the lawmaker that the polls would be voting for Kenyans, and he needs to abandon ethnic profiling.
“Kenyans will be voting for a Kenyan. Not a Nilote! Abandon this ethnic thing unless u want to reverse the huge gains we have made for William Ruto in the non-Nilotic voting block,” wrote Khalwale.
Nilotes size each other up
In a post that the senator has since deleted, Cheruiyot captioned an image of Ruto greeting former prime minister Raila Odinga as two Nilotes sizing each other up with a win-win outcome since either way; a Nilote will ascend the top seat.
“The Nilotes size each other up. The Nilotes Derby in August 2022 will be one like no other. Good thing, it will be home either way,” wrote the legislator.
