Diamond makes history in Africa

Tanzanian Bongo Flavor singer Diamond Platnumz has set yet another record on YouTube since joining the platform in 2011.

The Baba Lao singer became the first African artist to garner 900 million views on YouTube after calculating all his video views since he started uploading them on the platform.

The Wasafi Classic Baby recording label C.E.O has a total of 3.2 million subscribers on YouTube and he is known to post all of his shows together with his music videos. His collective views see him beat the likes of other big wigs such as Nigerian superstar Wizkid, Davido and Burnaboy.

The father of four has a tendency of making or breaking records. In 2018, he became the first African artist to get 6x platinum sales on his hit single dubbed Marry You which he featured legendary American RnB singer Neyo. In 2017, he became the first East African artist to be signed under the world’s leading entertainment company Universal Music.

This year, he made history again when he hit 3 million YouTube subscribers to become the first person from Tanzanian to do so. He also made another history after his third baby mama Tanasha Donna’s song dubbed Gere which she featured him before they broke up hit one million views in less than 14 hours.

The controversial artist was recently taken to court by his former landlord after he allegedly failed to pay his rent arrears which amounted to Tsh. 337 million (Ksh. 15 million). The arrears were meant to repair a building that used to house his WCB offices in Sinza before he moved them to Mbezi Beach in Dar es Salaam at a cost of reportedly Ksh. 36 million.

His lawyer, however, assured the court that he had been speaking with Diamond’s manager Sallam SK to see how they can resolve the issue but the singer was not in Tanzania at the moment due to the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus. He, however, assured the court that his client would be available after a few weeks.

Diamond and his crew are currently quarantined in Europe after his manager Sallam SK tested positive of the Coronavirus during their recent tour in Denmark, Switzerland and France. He was also forced to cancel the tour.
