From grass to grace – Comedian Chipukeezy shares his story (Photos)

Celebrated comedian Chipukeezy has come out to show his fans where he came from as a little-known stand-up comedian to where he is now.

In a series on Insta story posts, the former Churchill Show comedian took his fans through his journey from when he was still struggling to make it in the industry. He revealed that one of his friends going by the name Marto was the one who saw him off as he embarked on his quest to make it in the comedy industry.

He went on to reveal that he used to get roadshow gigs and together with is high school friends; they would visit a certain children’s home in Mlolongo as a way to give back to the community. He later joined acting before he started sharpening his skills in talking to a large number of crowds.

He went on to narrate that after keeping on pushing, he later got an opportunity to join Churchill Show where he met the late Aiyeya who showed him the ropes of living with people in Nairobi as well as how to perfect his comedy skills. He stated that Churchill Show host; celebrated comedian Daniel Ndambuki took him under his wing and pushed him to the limit.

As he continued to appear on Churchill Show, Kiss 100 came calling for his services and he started hosting a show with legendary radio presenter Caroline Mutuko and later with Linda Nyangweso.

After struggling to make it among the elite, Chipukeezy finally made it and his efforts saw President Uhuru Kenyatta appoint him as a member of the Board of Directors at the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol Drug Abuse (NACADA). Before his appointment, the position was being held by singer and now Starehe Member of Parliament Charles Kanyi Njagua popularly known as Jaguar.

He went on to reveal that he wore the shirt he had when he first appeared on TV for one year since he wanted everyone to remember him they saw the shirt.

He has also hosted comedy shows all over East Africa and has his own shows dubbed Chipukeezy Show which airs at TV47 and Chipukezzy Comedy Club which looks to unearth raw talent among the Kenyan youth. Chipukeezy has mentored a lot of comedians with one notable figure being, online comedian and now Milele FM radio show host Kartelo whom he describes as the future of stand-up comedy.
