How I was conned twice while house hunting – Former KTN actress narrates (Video)

Former KTN actress Ruth Maingi has narrated how she was conned in Nairobi twice as she was house hunting.

In a video seen by Kenyannews.co.ke, the former Lies That Bind actress revealed that the first time she was conned even before seeing the house she had been promised.

Ruth narrated that she saw an advertisement in the newspaper and she was impressed with the environment where the house was located.

“My con story is there was this day there was an advertisement in newspaper and I was looking for a house, just a small cute house because I was by myself so I just needed this SQ (Servant’s Quarter). It was on the paper and it was in a very nice environment in Hurlingham. So this SQ, self-contained was going for Ksh. 6,500 so they said to call the owner and they had the number on the newspaper,” she narrated.

Ruth Miangi went on to narrate that she called the owner and planned for a meeting and met at a restaurant around River Road.

She told her that the SQ belonged to her daughter and she was leaving the country. She told her that there was a fridge and a table and she was free to using anything in the house.

“So I was supposed to give her money, the deposit and once I move into that SQ, I pay the first month’s rent. So I asked if I had to sign an agreement to show that I had paid the deposit. She said there was no need because she did not need that money, she just did not want the house to be vacant,” she said.

Maingi revealed that her second con was when she was looking for a bigger house and looked up for an agent on OLX. The agent invited her to show her the houses and she was impressed with them.

She revealed that her budget was between Ksh.20,000 to 30,000. The agent asked her to pay him all the money only for her to come and realize that the house belonged to someone else and the rent was Ksh. 75,000.
