Celebrated rapper CMB Prezzo in a recent interview, revealed he was part of the outlawed sect Mungiki. The famous rapper was speaking at The Play House, a web series on the 16th of June 2020.
Prezzo recounted how he fell into depression in 2012 after he parted ways with his ex-wife. He resulted in staying most of the time indoors, and it was during this period that Mungiki initiated him.
According to him, one of Maina Njenga’s associate called and invited the musician for a meeting. He, however, did not reveal the topic of the meeting, although he gave Maina Njenga’s home in Karen as the location.
Prezzo disclosed he was worried after that call since Maina Njenga had a bad reputation at the time. His bodyguard, however, encouraged him to attend the meeting since he did not have anything to lose.
“My bodyguard was like let’s go, how are you going to win if you don’t play. I told him, for that, I was going to add his salary,” the rapper said.
Mungiki youth leader.
Prezzo revealed that during the meeting, Maina Njenga asked him to be the Mungiki youth leader. At the time, Maina was joining politics and was trying to get some stability. The rapper took the offer and became a youth leader for the outlawed sect.
“Maina Njenga had this movement, and he needed me to be the youth leader of the Mungikis. He wanted me to be the youth leader of the Mungikis, and who am I to say no?” Prezzo quizzed.
The rapper revealed that Maina began assigning him duties immediately. The first assignment was to organize youths to protest against Uhuru and Ruto in 2013. However, Limuru police were aware of the demonstrations and teargassed them.
Following this police reaction, Prezzo was among those who held a press conference condemning the cop actions against Maina Njenga’s followers.
“When we got to Limuru, the cops knew that we were pulling up. They were ready for us. When we got out of the car, they blasted us with teargas. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy, because you feel like there are pins and needles in your pupils.”
However, Prezzo stopped working with Njenga after God answered his prayers when Big Brother Africa (BBA) South Africa called him to participate.
