Steel wool and the human body
Steel wool is usually made through an intricate webbing of iron strands. When ground to a fine powder, it results from ironing fillings which have negative impacts on human health.
According to Kevin Mwangi, a certified nutritionist, steel wool is subject to rapid absorption once ingested. Upon intake it has dire consequences should they enter the bloodstream.
Kevin is a clinical expert at the Precure Nutritional Clinic of Nairobi. He said that “Individuals who have consumed particles of will not feel its effects immediately.
“However, continued ingestion of the same will lead to the person complaining of stomach bloating. Painful jabs along the abdomen often accompany the bloating bouts.
“To reduce pain, regular painkillers will suffice. However, it is the rate of absorption of the residual steel wool I worry about.
“Therefore, I recommend persons who suspect to have ingested steel wool to take at least two cups of milk daily. This will reduce the absorption rate of the particles.”
