Embakasi East Member of Parliament Paul Ongili alias babu Owino recently took to his social media pages announcing he had quit alcohol.
However, a group of netizens is not convinced. According to them, Babu might just be playing PR games to redeem himself before Kenyans.
According to Babu, he started drinking when he was eight years old. He further explained that at the time, it was normal. Everyone in his environment was drinking, and so he didn’t see anything wrong with taking chang’aa.
According to the legislator, since that time, he has always taken alcohol.
“At around eight years, I tasted chang’aa. I did it because it was what everyone was doing at around, and it was the normal thing to do. Out of influence, I had to take chang’aa. Since then, I have been taking alcohol,” Babu revealed.
The controversial legislator further acknowledged that he had had his ups and downs. Babu noted that some of his experiences are dirty and not pleasant (him shooting DJ Evolve).
I have changed.
However, he apologized to Kenyans and claimed he had quit alcohol. According to him, he is a changed man. Babu further added that his family is proud of him and the person he is becoming.
“I have had my ups and downs, and I have my challenges and pasts, some of which are dirty. I have reached a turning point and decided to change. A change that I am proud of, a change that my family is proud of. Being the MP is not the most important thing. The most important thing is to know who I am as a person.”
However, some netizens did not agree with him. Some claimed that Babu was trying to convince Kenyans that he is a good leader so that they can elect him in 2022.
Here are some of the responses.
What motivated you to drop alcohol? Is it the guilty of what you did under the influence?
If you really regretted your actions. You'd own up to what you did. You'd face the consequences. Anything other than that 🚮
