Singer Wendy Kimani has revealed her rough journey battling Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and how she managed to deal with it.
PCOS is a reproductive hormonal disorder in women that changes the reproductive cycle. While some women may experience heavy, frequent bleeding, others don’t see their menses for months. In some instances, some ladies have male features like beards.
Wendy revealed that she managed to fight PCOS through a diet change. She went on to explain that self-diagnosing PCOS may be tricky since it has different symptoms in different women.
The singer advised women to go for a doctor consultation before jumping into conclusions.
“IT’S’S ALSO SO STRANGE HOW WOMEN WITH PCOS CAN EACH HAVE REALLY DIFFERENT SYMPTOMS FROM EACH OTHER. I MAY NOT SEE MY PERIOD FOR MONTHS, AND ANOTHER CHIC WITH PCOS MAY HAVE AN ABNORMALLY HEAVY FLOW. I MIGHT GAIN WEIGHT, AND THE OTHER PERSON HAVE NO ISSUE WITH WEIGHT AT ALL. SO CONFUSING! SO YOUR DOC IS THE BEST PERSON TO SPEAK TO ABOUT DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT BUUUUUUT DON’T’T JUST STOP THERE.”
Wendy went on to reveal that her doctor prescribed some drugs and contraceptives to deal with the PCOS. However, the condition did not go away, and she had to fight it from a different direction.
“AS SOON AS I STARTED TO USE THE CONTRACEPTIVES, BOOM!! GUESS WHO SHOWS UP? MISS PERIOD! BUT AFTER TWO MONTHS, MY PILLS WERE OVER, SO I THOUGHT I’M’M CURED. WRONG! AFTER 2 MONTHS, IT WAS GONE AGAIN! ALSO, GLUCOPHAGE WAS MAKING ME FEEL HO-RRI-BLE! DIZZY, FOGGY PLUS THE WEIGHT WAS JUST THERE TU MSCHEWWW!”
Wendy decided to do her research and settled on using diet to fight PCOS. She went on to explain that she was able to conceive her son a year after eating the right diet.
“I DECIDED TO BE DEDICATED FOR A YEAR TO THIS NEW LIFESTYLE AND SEE IF I COULD REGULATE IT FOR 12 MONTHS STRAIGHT AND IT DID. I ACTUALLY LOST SOME WEIGHT CONSIDERING I WASN’T’T WORKING OUT AND WAS ABLE TO CONCEIVE MY SON. THIS IS WHAT WORKED FOR ME!”
