Controversial gospel singer Kevin Kioko popularly known as Bahati has explained the reason why he used his wife Diana Marau’s best friend Phoina in his new love song dubbed Wanani.
While in an interview with Milele FM Breakfast show host Jalang’o on his YouTube channel dubbed Bonga na Jalas, the Nakupa Moyo singer explained that he decided to use Phoina because he had worked with wife on two of his songs.
Bahati disclosed that the first music video he featured his wife was dubbed Mapenzi while the second one is waiting to be released in 2021 which is a special song to him.
He went on to defend himself saying that the reason why he is a gospel artist is so that he can get creative and not release songs that every fan anticipates.
“Sikutumia Diana sababu yupo kwa nyimbo zangu nyingi. Nimefanya na yeye Mapenzi na kuna video yangu special inatoka 2021 bado ni yeye ako. Isitoshe ndio maana naitwa gospel artist. Nafaa kuwa artistic nisifanye vitu ambavyo watu wanategemea,” Bahati told Jalang’o.
On making love songs, the singer defended himself saying that even preachers and all churchgoers listen to them and one cannot use a gospel song to express their love to their partners.
“Tuseme umetoka church na ni siku ya Valentines. Umepiga prayers zako vizuri. Utaambia mtu wako kwasababu leo ni Sunday acha nikuekee Barua by Bahati ama Holy Holy by Kirk Franklin? Hapana, utangia plae utafute John Legend, uingie Tanzania utafute Platnumz and in Kenya uingie utafute Wanani by Bahati,” he defended himself.
Bahati went on to caution other artists who pretend to walk in Christianity adding that some of them are not real.
He explained that his recording label was meant to help gospel artists who were beginning their musical journey but he closed it down because most of were not grateful. He also maintained that he is still a gospel artist and the best in Africa.
