Kiambu Governor Impeached by the County Assembly

Kiambu County Assembly has impeached its county boss Ferdinand Waititu.

Following a heated debated at the county assemblies Thursday afternoon, 63 MCAs, approved his impeachment. Ndenderu member of the county assembly Solomon Kinuthia tabled the motion for his removal.

With 28 members of the house absent, only one MCA voted against the motion.

The governor maybe lucky after appearing before the senate to clear his name against the said accusations. Top among them being the abuse of public office, by awarding tenders to firms associated with his relatives.

Other allegations are employing 600 casual workers without involving the County Public Service Board,-the body with hiring mandate-before ending their contracts. According to members of the assembly, this move could cripple the county through the loss of funds, and the possibility to face various suits.

Mr. Kinuthia further insisted on Waititu’s violation of the constitution of unlawfully taking the property of one Cecilia Njoki Mbugua, a widow from Thika town.

On the other hand, a motion tabled by MCA of Witeithie Macharia Taki to impeach the Deputy Governor Nyoro for going against the constitution was thrown to the wind. It was after he failed to appear for the afternoon session.
