County Headquarter closed after workers test positive for Covid-19

Nandi County Headquarters has been closed down after eight staff members tested positive for Covid-19.

According to a statement dated October 18, the county offices will remain closed for 14 days, starting from today.

County Secretary and Head of Public Service Francis Sang said that the shutdown will affect operations in eight county departmental offices with six from the Finance and Economic Planning Department, one from Public Service and e-government, and another one from Public Health and Administration.

Sang also noted that the offices of the Governor, Deputy Governor, Health, Finance, Public Service, and Economic Planning will be closed to cut the chain of transmission of the infectious disease.

The County Secretary further stated that the employees from the mentioned departments would work from home for a period of two weeks from October,19,2020.

The contact-tracing of all the affected workers will self-quarantine and have been advised and encouraged to take the COVID-19 test.

Testing of the officers in the affected departments commenced today, with staff from the health department headquarters.

According to Sang, a raft of preventive measures will be undertaken in all the county offices to contain the virus.

The affected offices have also been fumigated and other appropriate measures being undertaken within all affected county premises.

All departments will also be required to ensure strict handwashing and the wearing of face masks within the premises.

This development comes as there is concern over the rising numbers of Covid-19 infections in the country.

Health experts have expressed concerns that the country might be starring at a second wave of the infections adding that it could be more dangerous.

Today, Kenya has recorded 195 cases of the virus in the last 24 hours bringing the caseload to 45, 076.

7 more patients have succumbed to the virus bringing the death toll to 839.

Kenyans are continuously being reminded to stay safe and continue observing the containment measures as the virus is still in the country.
