Jubilee’s vice chairman David Murathe and Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi’s wife, Priscilla Murungi will record their statements as persons of interest in the ongoing investigations over the KEMSA scandal.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers will grill the two on Friday the 4th of September 2020. They will record their statements at Madison House, Upperhill.
Mrs Murungi is linked to Caperina Enterprises Limited; a company which received ksh 45 million from KEMSA to supply 10,000 boxes of surgical masks.
On the other hand, Murathe is connected to Kilig enterprises; a company which received ksh 4 billion to supply 450,000 Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs). Each went for ksh 9,000.
I am innocent.
However, Murathe distanced himself from Kilig Enterprises. According to him, the two parties did consultations before but not this time. The vice-chair went on to acknowledge that William Gachoka is his family friend, and they have come a long way.
“He (Gachoka) is my friend. He is my partner. I have known him since childhood. We are family friends from childhood. I partner with William on a lot of issues, but I have not partnered with him on this one (KEMSA tender).”
Murathe further accused Ruto of being part of the KEMSA scandal. According to him, at the time Kilig was receiving the tender, there was a change in management. He went on to claim that the new administration was Ruto’s partners.
“William Gachoka and his partner (Zhu Jinping) had transferred the shareholding of that company to known partners of Deputy President William Ruto, and when they could not come through with the financing for the importation of the equipment, it reverted back to the original partners through the lawyers.”
The vice-chair also admitted that he had the evidence. He, however, urged interested parties to visit KCB if they wanted to know the real owners of Kilig Enterprises.
“We have the evidence. We have the transfers. If you want to find out go KCB and find out who are the account holders of Kilig Limited. You will find out they are known partners of the Deputy, President William Ruto.”
