What are tinnitus?
Tinnitus is defined as an annoying ringing or noise, continuous or intermittent, in the ears; we cannot speak of a real disease, rather tinnitus is a symptom common to various pathologies or age stages. For example, many elderly people complain of tinnitus, a reflection of age-related physiological hearing loss or ear lesions.

What causes tinnitus?
Some diseases can trigger or exacerbate tinnitus: most of the time, it is not possible to identify a single cause. In general, the factors most involved are: atherosclerosis, damage to the inner ear, earwax deposit, frequent exposure to loud noises, advanced age, hypertension, lesions of the auditory nerves or the brain, acoustic neuroma, otosclerosis ( stiffening of the bone in the middle ear), otitis, Ménière’s syndrome, head trauma, head and neck tumors.
The abuse of some drugs can also promote the onset of tinnitus (for example, some antibiotics, antimalarials, aspirin (overdose), chemotherapy, etc.).

How does tinnitus manifest itself?
Tinnitus begins with an annoying perception of a noise, similar to a ringing, in the ears, in the absence of external sounds. It is a sort of phantom noise, perceived exclusively by the subject: the noise can be more or less intense, hissing or roaring, continuous or intermittent. Sometimes, the noise heard is so violent and high-pitched that it even interferes with normal daily activities and concentration.
Medicines for the Treatment of Tinnitus
To treat tinnitus, the doctor will first need to identify the cause that caused the disorder. we therefore proceed with the treatment of the underlying pathology, also making use of parallel therapeutic measures aimed at alleviating the perceived noise caused by tinnitus.
In any case, it should be noted immediately that there are no specific drugs or medical treatments aimed at resolving tinnitus. When possible, therefore, we try to intervene on the triggering cause and on the symptoms that can accompany tinnitus.
In the presence of ear plugs formed inside the ear, the first treatment is to remove them.
If the tinnitus originates from a vascular alteration, the doctor can intervene by prescribing the administration of drugs or other targeted treatments.
If tinnitus originates from ear infections, its treatment is essential.
However, when the cause of tinnitus depends on a drug, it is advisable to suspend its use and replace it with an active ingredient of similar therapeutic activity.
