It is common in many families to have industrialized foods stored in the pantry for children. In many cases, they are there as a “treat”, a pinch or even to have something practical to give to the child.
Some people believe that such items are innocent nonsense and will not cause harm. However, to be successful in forming good children’s eating habits, good food choices and attention to the environment in which the child is inserted are necessary.
Many mothers, fathers and caregivers, in the quest to offer the best for their children, are mistaken in their choices, either through marketing or even by not seeking more information about the composition of the products, analyzing the labels and paying attention to the composition of the list of ingredients. This causes illusion about some foods,? Hiding? the pranks in the composition of the product.
To help, we have listed below five of the main foods that are often offered to children, sometimes for convenience, sometimes for having the idea that they are nutritious, but in fact they are not!
Box of juice
In the running routine it becomes attractive to opt for ready-to-eat juices even with the idea of changing soft drinks in the child’s food. However, it is necessary to know that most options are composed of water, excess sugar, preservatives and very little of the fruit.

In place of fruit, which would be a nutritious component, many contain artificial flavors and colors that should be avoided in the first years of life, as they are related to a series of problems, such as allergies and even hyperactivity. A good option for this offer would be to substitute a mixture of natural yogurt with a fruit.
The mixture can be made with frozen fruits, ensuring more creaminess. However, it is necessary to wait an interval of one hour to an hour and a half after the main meals to avoid compromising the absorption of iron from plant sources.
It is seen as a good nutritious dessert option, but it is not healthy to be part of a child’s daily diet. Its composition is a risk in the early years for the development of allergies due to the high exposure to dyes.
Regarding the nutritional issue, it is not interesting and has in its composition a large amount of sugars, preservatives and flavorings. The diet versions are made up of artificial sweeteners. A healthy option to be offered to children are natural fruit juices and agar.
They are the darlings of the children’s world and many draw attention because they are enriched with vitamins and minerals – but it is necessary to know that this fact does not stop the product from being an ultra-processed option without adequate nutrients.
So it is one more food that makes up the children’s food and deserves to be rethought. Instead of stuffed cookies, opt for a simple, homemade cake and very ripe fruits that are much sweeter and more nutritious.
The snacks take place in the children’s lunch boxes because they come in eye-catching packages and are extremely practical and palatable. Regarding the nutritional issue, however, they are part of the list of foods with “empty calories”, which do not bring any nutritional support. They also reduce the child’s demand for vegetables, as changes in his taste buds occur which start to look more and more for the excess of salt and for the texture that is given to the food by the amount of fat.
