Remedies to lower fever

The most indicated remedy to reduce fever is paracetamol, as it is a substance that, used correctly, can be used safely, in almost all cases, even in children or pregnant women, and the dose should be adapted, especially in the infant age group, up to 30 kg.

Other examples of remedies for fever are dipyrone, ibuprofen or aspirin, however, these drugs have more contraindications and side effects in relation to paracetamol and therefore should only be used with the guidance of the doctor.

The dosage of these medicines should be determined by the doctor, taking into account the age, weight and symptoms of each person.

Remedies to lower fever

Remedy to lower fever in the baby

The most indicated remedies to lower fever in the baby are paracetamol (Tylenol), infantile dipyrone (Infantile Novalgina) and ibuprofen (Alivium, Doraliv), which should be administered through age-appropriate pharmaceutical forms such as oral suspension, oral drops or suppositories, for example. These medications also aid in pain relief.

These remedies should only be taken, preferably, from 3 months of age, every 6 or 8 hours, depending on the indication of the pediatrician and according to the body weight of the child. In some cases, the doctor may suggest interspersing two drugs every 4 hours, such as paracetamol and ibuprofen, for example, to reduce fever symptoms.

To help lower the fever in the baby one can also remove excess clothes, offer fresh drinks or wet the child’s face and neck with damp towels.

Remedy to lower fever in pregnant women

Although paracetamol (Tylenol) is considered safe to be used by pregnant women, it should be avoided to the fullest, as should other remedies without medical advice. It is also important to note that many remedies with paracetamol in the composition have associated other substances that are contraindicated in pregnancy.

How to prepare a home remedy for fever

A great home remedy for fever is to take a warm tea of ginger, mint and elderflower, about 3 to 4 times a day, as it increases sweating, which helps to decrease fever.

To prepare the tea, simply mix 2 teaspoons of ginger, 1 teaspoon of mint leaves and 1 teaspoon of dried elderflower in 250 mL of boiling water, stwo and drink.

Another natural measure that can help lower the fever is to put a towel or a sponge wet in cold water on the face, chest or wrists, replacing them whenever they are no longer cold.
