South African scientists point out that risk of reinfection could triple with Omicron variant

Date:

Through data collected by the health system of South Africa, the scientists thus discovered the first epidemiological evidence about the ability of Omicron, being superior to the previous ones, in order to manage to escape the immunity built by the bodies already infected with the virus.

The Omicron variant may be three times more likely to re-infect people who have already contracted covid-19 compared to Delta or Beta. This was the conclusion of a preliminary study by South African scientists and published this Thursday.
