WHO has reported that there is an outbreak of Ebola in DRC. Two people have died, and another 100 are infected with the virus. Efforts to look for the other people they have been in contact with are being made in several districts.WHO statement said that one of the deceased is from Congo’s North Kivu province.
One of the deceased who was a 60-year-old woman from Biena district died on Wednesday after being in contact with a woman who has also died after contracting Ebola. Health workers are now being deployed to the two districts to help in identifying any other contacts. The WHO regional director for Africa Matshidiso Moeti said that the DRC government is working hand in hand with the UN to prevent the spread of the disease.
New cases arose after DRC announced the end of the outbreak of Ebola. The disease killed 55 people, and 130 got infected during the outbreak. One of the deadliest season in DRC was in August 2018 during Ebola outbreak that went through till June 2020.
More than 2000 people died, making it the second most high number in the disease’s history. Vaccines had helped curb the disease as the last person was declared to have recovered on October 16, 2020, before the outbreak began.Johnson&Johnson drug company has aided in the distributing of the vaccines to DRC.
It has also taken part in giving a one-shot vaccine for COVID-19. With Corona being presented, it has become extremely nerve-wracking to eradicate both Corona and Ebola. Corona has infected 23,600 people and killed 681 in DRC. Efforts are being made to distribute both Corona and Ebola vaccines.
