Celebrated news anchor Anne Kiguta has allegedly fallen out with her bosses at K24 after internal wrangles that have pitted her against her bosses.
According to sources who sought anonymity while speaking to a local daily, Kiguta is displeased with the way the Mediamx owned station is handling some of its operations. The management allegedly brought in a team of political operatives who have now taken over editorial.
The sources further explain that Kiguta is not in favour of this as she is highly independent on the punchline show’s editorial matters.
“There is an editorial conflict within the team, and it has been brought in by non-editorial actors who have been brought in to the show.
“They are trying to influence the direction of the show in a non-news way,” the source revealed, further noting that Kiguta disagrees with the changes and interference.
Signs of wrangles.
This disclosure comes after Anne Kiguta skipped the latest Punch Line Show aired on the 22nd of November 2020. The management, however, claimed that the celebrated news anchor was off on that day.
This is not the first time that the news anchor has disagreed with her bosses.
A month ago, Kiguta disclosed that it was not her decision to cancel the interview with Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro. According to her, her bosses had cancelled the interview, but she claimed she respected their decision.
“As the host of this program, I have a responsibility to you, the viewer, and so I must state that this was not my decision, and I respectfully disagree with it,” Kiguta had said.
Earlier this year, K24 laid off some of its journalists and staff, citing hard economic times from the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the management spared Kiguta as she had managed to build a strong political show that attracted a huge following.
