Asanti Uhuru – Kenyans flood social media with appreciation messages

Kenyans took to Twitter early Sunday morning on July 12th, 2020, thanking President Uhuru Kenyatta for his excellent work. The netizens mentioned some of Uhuru’s achievements since he took office as Kenya’s president in 2013.

Tweeps took the discussion to Twitter, making the topic trend under the hashtag #AsantiUhuru.

Netizens were quick to highlight how Uhuru has managed to tarmac an average of 1000 km of roads yearly. During Madaraka day on June 1st, 2020, the president claimed that he had built more roads than all the previous presidents combined.

Other netizens also highlighted that Uhuru had eased the livelihoods of the average Kenyan when he launched the Huduma Centers. Kenyans can now easily access government services at one location without having to wait for long.

This was previously not the case as citizens had to line up at every government office, awaiting their turn. In turn, the process resulted in time and energy wastage. It is also during Uhuru’s tenure that Kenyans can apply and get their passports through some orderly manner. Now, one has to login to their e-citizen account, apply, and book an appointment.

Other netizens acknowledged how Uhuru has helped in bridging the digital divide by introducing google balloons in rural areas. This gives Kenyans in rural areas a chance to access the internet.

Uhuru also has faults.

However, some netizens also criticized the president in some of the areas his government failed. One netizen was quick to mention how the cost of living has increased during Uhuru’s tenure. Others accused him of graft cases ranging from the Kimwarer dams. Some netizens were quick to point out that the president has not delivered in some of his promises, including employment opportunities.

According to some netizens, Uhuru has imposed heavy taxes on the common mwananchi leading them to poverty.

Here are some of the tweets. You can follow the Twitter trend here.
