Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino made true his promise to visit Interior CS Fred Matiang’i to push for the repair of the faulty Fedha – Nyayo Gate B Road in his constituency.
In a post on his Facebook page on Wednesday, November 13, Owino announced that he had managed to hold a consultative meeting with the Matiang’i and Kenya Urban Roads Authority boss to ensure that the issue was settled once and for all.
“Today I paid a courtesy call to the Chief Minister Fred Matiang’i and KURA Director General Engineer Silas Kinoti and agreed that the construction of Fedha to Nyayo Gate B Road will commence soon,” he wrote.
Owino, speaking at Good Testimony School’s 20th Anniversary on Saturday, November 9, had given an ultimatum to KURA to construct the road.
“I’m going to ensure that road is constructed. On Monday I will be at KURA offices, they are based at JKIA. If they can’t construct for us a road, they better pack from our constituency and look for another,” he had threatened.
His harsh stance was motivated by increasing complaints from the area residents who lamented that mobility had become a nightmare, given the protracted rainy season and poor drainage in the region.
His visit to CS Matiang’i sparked requests from area residents who urged him to consider other roads in the constituency which were in the same state as the one he was concerned about.
“Kindly repair all the Tassia roads, from Fedha to Kwa Ndege to Baraka Estate. Also, let KURA know that the contractor doing the construction of the Seventy Five to Soweto Bridge is sleeping on the job,” Ezekiel Nyabogi requested.
“Whenever it rains, sewage from Nyayo Estate is discharged onto the road leading to the river bank (I mean the road between Tassia and Baraka Estate). This is so bad,” another concerned resident informed him.
Owino asked for patience from the residents, stating that the roads would be completed in due time.
“Little patience is required from the constituents since the procurement process has to be strictly followed to get the best contractor for the job,” he stated.
