Bahati MP slams Joho, Junet for using 30M of taxpayers’ money to visit Raila in Dubai

Bahati Member of Parliament Kimani Ngunjiri has called out Mombasa County Governor Ali Hassan Joho and Suna East MP Junet Mohammed for using Ksh. 30 million taxpayers’ money to finance their flashy trip to visit Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga in Dubai.

Joho and Junet flew to Dubai on Thursday 9 to visit Raila Odinga who had been admitted to a German-owned facility after reportedly undergoing surgery.

Speaking to the media, Kimani Ngunjiri stated that the two ODM politicians wasted taxpayers’ money to go see a sick person while the common mwananchi was still finding it difficult to put something on the table.

He added that the money the two politicians spent might have been more than the money that was reported.

“Sasa wamefika wakiingia kwa jet. Junet na Gorvanor wa Mombasa Joho. 30 million kuenda kuona mgonjwa. Sasa hao wameenda juu hawakummbuki kuna Wanjiku (common mwananchi) na kuna vijana hawana kazi. 30 million kuenda kuona mgonjwa na kurudi. Hiyo ni ile ilionyeshanwa na ikihesabiwa yote maybe it’s about a billion,” he said.

He went on to wonder why politicians are using money carelessly adding that if the money that the two used to fly to Dubai had been used to pay for Raila Odinga’s medical bills, there would be no problem.

“That is a disease and we must assist every Kenyan. Kama tungeambiwa ni bill ya hospitali that would have been okay. Lakini si watu wawili kuenda kutuonyesha matumbo yao na kujionyesha wakikula kwa ndege. What are you showing Kenyans wakati wanakufa na Corona. Wakati machine za kupima zimekosa kwasababu hakuna pesa,” he added.

In a counter-attack, ODMSecretary-General Edwin Sifuna stated that Junet Mohammed and Ali Hassan Joho financed their trip to Dubai from their pockets. He added that the two are prominent businessmen.

Raila Odinga jetted into the country on Sunday 12 after spending three weeks in Dubai. ODM party chairman John Mbadi said that their party leader would be working from his home in Karen for two weeks to regulate busy schedules.
