Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa has accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of using seasoned lawyers who will challenge the High Court ruling on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) to frighten Court of Appeal judges.
In an interview with Citizen TV on Monday 31 May, 2021, the MP who is a strong supporter of Deputy President William Ruto said that it was wrong for President Uhuru Kenyatta to mount an epic legal battle in the Court of Appeal.
He added that the move was equal to intimidating the appellate judges.
The MP pointed out that all cases that are taken to Court regardless of who wins or losses are meant to develop the law.
He added that with the head of state being the head of one of the government, he needs to lead by example by being impartial to BBI matters by virtue of him being a symbol of national unity which means he should be able to be fair.
“All cases that are taken to court, regardless of one who wins or losses, are meant to develop the law, and the Head of State, being the head of one of the arms of the government, should be able to be impartial,” Barasa said.
He further added that the BBI roadmap should be rerouted from a popular initiative to a parliamentary one which is much simpler.

Earlier on President Uhuru and his handshake partner Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga assured BBI proponents that the BBI was not going to be defeated.
Speaking at Wagai market in Gem Constituency, Siaya County, the first in command broke his silence over BBI since a five-judge High Court bench scuttled the process while also barring the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) from preparing for a referendum.
The President, who is on a tour of Nyanza ahead of the Madakara day celebrations, rallied the residents to back BBI.
He told the resident that the BBI is not helping Raila or him. He explained that the document is meant to bring justice for every Kenyan and that is what he is pleading with Kenyans to come out and support.
He added that he is sure everything regarding BBI will go back to normal as the BBI team has top lawyers such as Siaya County Senator James Orengo.
