The former liberal leader Lawrence Nginyo Kariuki has died at Aga Khan University Hospital. He was admitted in the hospital undergoing treatment.
According to the family, he died at 1.30 am on Monday, 24 February 2020.
Nginyo Kariuki has been an astute and successful businessman.
Nginyo will be remembered for his stronh stand in politics. Also, he was instrumental in quest for Multiparty Democracy in Kenya.
Mr. Nginyo was the founder member of The National Alliance Party (TNA). Additionally, he was the Jubilee party spokesman in Kiambu county.
Besides, Nginyo was a golfer who participated in African golf in Kenya.
In August 2019, he presented his views to Building Bridges Initiative.
Mr. Nginyo said there was no need to expand the Executive to include prime minister and two deputy prime ministers.
Also, he told the team that the current set up of the President and deputy is better even though it creates disharmony.
Nginyo said, “It is imperative to expand the Executive if you want to ensure there is peace and cohesion. He says the current structure is contentious and has led to a polarization of the country.”
When he fell ill in 2018, ODM party leader Raila Odinga visited him at his Red Hill home to wish him a quick recovery.
