Police officers arrested 14 students at a house party. The arrests took place at Mucagara market, Kirinyaga County.
The police officers revealed that they found alcoholic drinks, gambling cards, and used condoms in the house. They detained the students at Kianyaga police station for interrogation.
Antony Wanjuu, the Kirinyaga East Sub-County police boss, confirmed the arrests. He said that they also arrested a trader and owner of the house where they found the 14 students.
Out of the 14 students, 12 were boys, and 2 were girls. All of them learn in different schools. Mr Wanjuu allegedly allowed them to use his house to celebrate the birthday of one of them.
Police officers raided the house on Monday morning after receiving a tip-off from the neighbours. They found the students dancing in the house. They also found empty beer bottles, gambling cards, and condoms scattered all over the place.
“We suspect that the youthful trader, who was inside the room with the students, uses the house as a brothel. We could charge her in court,” Mr Wanjuu said.
The police boss also said that they would charge the students with being drunk and disorderly once they complete investigations. He noted with concerns that the students who are barely 15 years old were engaged in activities that could ruin their lives. He urged parents to monitor their children’s movements when schools are closed.
“They were merry-making in a congested room. They did this in total disregard to Covid-19 preventive measures that the government put in place,” the police boss said.
“Parents should take care of them during holidays. This way, they won’t get ruined. Students can easily waste away if we do not take care of them,” he added.
