Export Processing Zone to be set up in Voi

An  Export Processing Zone (EPZ)  centre will be set up at  Ndii area in Voi sub-county by the Taita Taveta County Government.

Residents of Voi Sub-County during a public participation exercise at  Dan Mwazo Hall agreed to have the land which is 600 acres as the location for the EPZ centre.  The area was found to be viable as there is the availability of water, electricity and good roads.

Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja has called on the locals’ ready to facilitate agribusiness to avail farms that will be boosted by the County Government. The County will help the locals drill boreholes for irrigation and the farm produce will be the raw materials for the centre.

“We respect the rule of law but we understand the ranches we have in this County can be utilized for the benefit of County residents. I call upon stakeholders to offer them so that the county water drilling machine can help drill water for irrigation that will create employment for our people.” Samboja stated.

EPZ centres are Customs areas which allows the people to import plant, machinery, equipment and material for the manufacture of export goods under security, without payment of duty.  The zones are aimed at promoting and facilitating export-oriented investments. Over 40 zone in Nairobi, Voi, Athi River, Kerio Valley, Mombasa and Kilifi have been gazetted by the Government.
