A 23 years old woman drowned herself by jumping to river Kuja in Uriri Migori County. Silvia Aluoch, the deceased, plunged into the river Thursday evening when she was heading home from a women’s gathering. Police confirm that the women had planned and informed her about how her properties would be auctioned. Even though the main cause of suicide has not been proven, the auction was as a result of having a debt worth Sh. 9,000.
Uriri sub-county police commander Peter Njoroge said, “The woman had borrowed a loan from a local Sacco.” During her death, she was under very high pressure on how she could repay the loan. Also, the deceased was coming from a merry go round group known as Wabongo B Group. According to the sources, she boarded a motorcycle from home, but unfortunately, she alighted along the way.
The motorbike she had boarded belonged to one of the members in their group, but she decided to alight and pick a shawl that had fallen. Little could they notice that the sooner the bike stopped, she jumped to River Kuja. The police officers confirmed that attempts of rescuing the woman failed as a result of the ranging water, which drowned and swept her downstream.
