Exploitation of the highest order – Kenyans blast Jalang’o over graphic design competition

Comedian and former Milele FM radio presenter Felix Odiwuor aka Jalang’ o found himself on the wrong side of Kenyans after he announced an online graphic design competition.

Jalas, who lost his job at Milele FM ventured into Jalang’ o TV and Youtube Bonga na Jalas, where he is recording success. It is while he was trying to get a new logo for his new Jalang’ o TV that the radio king rubbed shoulders with some Kenyans.

He uploaded his current logo on the 27th of June 2020 and challenged creative graphic designers to recreate it. Jalang’ o further promised ksh 10,000 to the best graphic designer in the online graphic design competition.

The competition quickly attracted Kenyans’ attention with some participating and others tagging potential winners. However, the competition did not sit well with some accusing him of exploiting needy youth.

Stop exploiting the youth.

According to some netizens, Jalang’ o was taking advantage that many youths are financially unstable and will jump at the opportunity. Others further claimed that Jalas only wanted to get free design samples. According to them, he is only giving the ksh 10,000 as a token despite having thousands of free samples.

Jalang’ o has not yet responded to the accusations.

“Exploitation comes in many forms, and this is the main one. Until you’ve signed a contract, don’t create anything. Because now he will have thousands of free logos just at his disposal in the name of competition,” Venus Cherop wrote.

“You all should read and understand why you should NEVER participate in design contests,” Simon Karagu argued.

“He knows what Kenyans are going through, so someone is in real need of that Ksh10,000. He should let people charge what they see fit,” Joy Mariga argued.

However, some netizens supported Jalng’ o arguing that he had not done anything wrong.

“Jalang’ o promises to pay Ksh10,000 for the best logo; consideration is the price paid for a promise made by one party to the other party. In addition to this, consideration need not be adequate. It only needs to be of real value,” MC JB  commented.
