DJ Evolve, real name Felix Orinda, medical bill, has hit 7 million and still counting.
Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino, previously promised to pay the disk master’s medical bill at the Nairobi Hospital. However, this promise seems faded as he is yet to accomplish.
During his court hearing, the politician offset ksh 600,000 medical bills siting it as an expression of sorrow.
Orinda’s family is confused, seeing the bill is at ksh 6,684,000. The family claims they are not in a position to pay the bill. According to them, they cannot get the full amount even if they sell their assets.
Babu Owino was released with a cash bail of 10 million. He was to remit payments in four installments. However, the vocal mp only made the first payment.
The bail money was to be used in settling DJ Evolve’s medical bill at the Nairobi Hospital.
Faulted bail terms
However, Noordin Hajji had opposed this move by the court. According to him, accessing bail money is impossible.
The court can only decide what to do with the money after the trial is over. This makes it difficult to pay the medical bills while the case is still ongoing.
He sought to have the High Court take over the case from the magistrate. Hajji felt Babu was out on a free bond, which was not right given the severity of the crime he committed.
According to the DPP, Babu Owino does not have any loss if he does not appear in court. The bail money was to stand in for that reason.
Former Attorney General Willy Mutunga also faulted the court’s ruling.
The Kenya Law Society also expressed their shock at this decision. They cited the bail terms as the judge’s invention.
Babu’s bail terms review applications
Babu Owino has applied to have his bail terms reviewed. According to him, the bail money is exceptionally high.
Due to the strong influence the DPP has, Babu sought a petition to block him from commenting on his case.
This move is, however, shunned because the bail money was to be channeled to Nairobi Hospital for Evolve.
The family has revealed the hospital keeps calling them regarding the medical bill.
They indicate Orinda is till in a deplorable state. He is unable to eat or speak. Currently, he is fed through tubes.
According to medical records, Evolve owes the hospital doctors fees worth Ksh1.66 million. The pharmacy needs ksh 1.3 million to clear the DJ. Room rent required is at ksh 990,000, while nursing charges are at ksh 913, 683.
Orinda also undergoes physiotherapy, which needs a settling fee of ksh 494,100.
