Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa and five other persons have been released on a Ksh2 million and Ksh500,000 cash bail respectively after taking plea in graft charges against them.
She failed to appear in court on Friday. Her lawyer Danstan Omari said the lawmaker who is said to have embezzled Ksh2.5 million was ailing and thus unable to appear before court.
Jumwa surrendered herself at Port Police Station to record a statement.
“I am here because the court directed me to be here. I was in Nairobi, I do not know the offences but we will hear them in court tomorrow,” Jumwa told reporters.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji, on Thursday, ordered the arrest of Jumwa alongside other CDF Committee members and the Director of Multserve Contractors Limited.
Multiserve Contractors Limited reportedly received a sum of Ksh 19 million for the construction of the Malindi sub-county education office after an unlawful tendering process.
“Evidence showed that Hon Aisha Jumwa Karisa Katana concealed the said sums, being proceeds of crime, through depositing an instalment towards the purchase of an apartment situated on L.R No. 2/289, along Argwings Kodhek Road in Nairobi,” Haji said.
