Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama together with Africa Youth Project, Gina Din and Red Cross Kenya have donated hygiene packages to the Billian Family Centre in Mathare.
The centre received sanitizing kits, masks, foodstuff and shopping. Needy and vulnerable groups in Mathare also got the packages. Slum areas have been listed as high-risk areas due to crowding and lack of proper housing. The areas are also vulnerable due to the frequent lack of water.
Wanyama who is the Redcross Goodwill ambassador urged Kenyans to play their part in the fight against the virus. He called on Kenyans to follow the guidelines released by the ministry.
“During this fight against coronavirus, it is important for us as Kenyans to do our part and help stop its spread, he said.
The Coronavirus outbreak across the world saw Wanyama fail to make his Major League Soccer debut. He only made one appearance which was in their 2-1 loss to Olimpia in the CONCACAF Champions League match.
Wanyama bagged an assist in the clash which was staged at Montreal Olympic Stadium. Wanyama’s MLS debut was expected to be against Minnesota at Allianz Field but the clashes were postponed.
Wanyama joined Montreal in March signing a three-year contract deal from Tottenham Hotspurs.
