Digital Innovations and Diaspora Communications Secretary Dennis Itumbi has welcomed back Joseph “Jowie” Irungu to the free world after he was released from state custody on bail on Thursday 13.
Jowie who is the prime suspect in the murder of the late businesswoman Monica Kimani had been in custody for almost 18 months. However, while listening to his case at Millimani Law Courts, Justice James Wakianga released him on Ksh. 2 million cash bail and Ksh. 3 million bond. Justice Wakianga explained that the prosecution had not presented enough evidence to continue detaining him.
In an interview with Kiss 100 during the launch of Chipukeezy Comedy club show, the former journalist stated that he was happy that Jowie was out as he felt it was unfair for him to stay that long in custody.
Itumbi noted that people close to Jowie have been praying for justice to be served for him, another suspect in the murder case Jacque Maribe as well as the family of the late Monica.
He went on to jokingly state that he hopes Jowie gets lucky on Valentine’s Day adding that he was ready to buy him flowers to take to his Valentine’s date. He pointed out that Jowie was his good friend as well as award-winning comedian Eric Omondi. The three men have always been in Maribe’s life.
Jowie was arrested together with former Citizen news anchor Maribe but the former TV queen was granted bail after about two months. The body of the late Monica was found in the bathtub at her Lamuria Gardens apartment with her hands and legs tied. Her throat had been slit wide open.
