Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga while drumming up support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) has claimed that the introduction of the Prime Minister position will post once again will promote efficient leadership.
The former Prime Minister while addressing the youth on Thursday 13 January 2021, said that people should stop opposing the Building Bridges Initiative which has included the role of a Prime Minister.
He added that those opposing the document should learn from the 2008 Grand Coalition Government.
He pointed out that the Prime Minister post ensured that the government was under check.
He argued that former President Mwai Kibaki had his roles and he had his.
He stressed out that the two also made better decisions and solved problems too. He added that most of the developments being enjoyed right now (in 2021) were unveiled during their regime.
He maintained that sharing power with the former President was one of the best decisions made in the country’s history.
He also took time to hit out at Deputy President William Ruto asking him to tell the country if sharing power with former President Mwai Kibaki was being tribalistic as he keeps on saying.
He argued that the BBI will shape politics in the country and make sure that the power is rotational and does not stay for long in one community as it has been witnessed before.
“The BBI will shape politics in Kenya and ensure that power is rotational as President Uhuru Kenyatta said. Their introduction of the Prime Minister post once again will promote efficient leadership,” Raila said.
Last weekend during the burial of the late Mama Hannah, Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi’s mother, President Uhuru Kenyatta remarks on the rotational government saw a section of leaders come out all guns blazing accusing him of being tribal just when the 2022 general elections are around the corner.
However, Raila defended the head of state saying that the rotational presidency is done all over the world and it would be a good idea if the country also adopted the formula.
DP Ruto on the other hand without mentioning names that some politicians were ethnic-minded and would want to see the country witness a repeat of the 2007/2008 election violence.
