Isaac Ruto, party leader of the Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party, is in the process of dumping President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga as he joins forces with Deputy President William Ruto.
The former Bomet Governor said that he was still negotiating with the Deputy President before agreeing to support him. He also said that he might need the Deputy President’s support in the future.
“I may be the one who needs his support in 2022,” Isaac Ruto said.
The CCM party leader will host DP Ruto in Sotik, Bomet County, on 15th January. They will both attend an event where the Deputy President will hand over buses to schools. Later on, they will preside over a fundraiser for Boda Boda Saccos.
Deputy President William Ruto will also make a stopover in Bomet Central. While there, he will donate a bus to the national super league side Silibwet FC and commission the town’s access roads.
Isaac Ruto and William Ruto’s meeting comes barely a month after Isaac Ruto said that he would support Gideon Moi’s presidential bid in 2022. Isaac Ruto made the announcement at a BBI sensitization campaign.
“We are ready as a party to support you. Our party will field candidates up-to county level, but for the top seat, we will support you,” Isaac Ruto said at the time.
The former Bomet Governor withdrew his statement after some of his party members pointed out that he had not consulted them.
Several politicians have switched camps after deciding to support Deputy President William Ruto.
