Jubilee reveals Constituencies it will not field candidates in by-elections and why

Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju on Wednesday 13 January 2021 disclosed that it will not be fielding candidates in some of the Constituencies during their by-elections.

Speaking to the press, Tuju said that the party has held consultations with the National Assembly leadership and the Senate over the past few days and they had deliberated on a cross-section of issues about the country at large, some of the specificities on the party, the Parliament and the impending by-elections.

He pointed out that the party’s had concluded that it will not participate in the Machakos County, Matungu Constituency, and Kabuchai by-elections following their leaders’ untimely deaths.

“With respect to participation in the forthcoming by-elections, Jubilee will not take part in by-elections of Machakos, Matungu, and Kabuchai,” read part of the statement.

Tuju added that the party is currently enjoying a period of constructive engagement with the Wiper Democratic Movement, ODM, Ford-Kenya, and Amani National Congress party (ANC) with the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

The Cabinet Secretary without the portfolio explained that the decision of the Jubilee party not to field any candidates in those three Constituencies was because it saw the bigger picture which is bringing the country together through the BBI.

He added that there was no need to open avoidable arenas for conflict with the party’s partners in the BBI.

He noted that as the Nairobi gubernatorial seat, the party was following keenly how things will play out in the High Court and at the National Assembly.

After the Jubilee party made the announcement, Amani National Congress in a statement said that it acknowledged the party’s decision not to field a candidate in the Matungu Constituency by-election in favor of the party.

ANC said that it was deeply humbled by the move as it showed that the two parties were on the right path of a constructive national dialogue.

The ANC party which is led by Musalia Mudavadi added that it will endorse Hon. Peter Oscar Nabulindo as its flag bearer.

It further added that the move was also an extension to the Ford-Kenya party. He noted that as a party it will also be supporting Ford-Kenya in the Kabuchai mini-polls.
