Kang’ata tells Uhuru to shelve BBI

Murang’a Senator and Senate Majority Chief Whip Irungu Kang’ata has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to shelve BBI and focus on current economic challenges.

Kang’ata has once again criticized Uhuru Kenyatta’s government for focusing on popularizing BBI instead of handling issues that the country is currently facing.

Speaking during a church service in Murang’a, the Senator said that instead of the President promoting BBI in the Mt Kenya region, he should address agricultural issues.

“I’ve been listening to the people who want coffee and tea issues to be addressed first,” Kang’atta said.

“People want to have money in their pockets,” he added.

Irungu Kang’ata also said that BBI would fail unless all leaders across the country declare their support for it.

The Murang’a Senator also defended his move of writing an open letter to the President. He said that he was only performing his duty as the Senate Majority Chief Whip.

“I respect the President, but my duties as the Senate Chief Whip should be telling him the truth and what the people want. I will continue telling the truth without fear or favor,” Kang’ata said.

The Murang’a also alleged that they want to fire him because he told the President the truth.
