Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i rubbed Kenyans the wrong way after ordering the arrest of two suspects who had posted on Facebook that he was battling COVID-19 in the Intensive Care Unit.
The DCI detectives arrested 33-year old freelance journalist Isaac Kibet Yego and 19-year old Emanuel Kosgei in Ngeria Eldoret with the detectives stating that they were the suspects of authoring and publishing false information about the CS.
The DCI disclosed that the operation resulted in the confiscation of a laptop and two mobile phones which were suspected to have been used in the dissemination of the information.
“The DCI wishes to inform, urge and warn any person who out of malice or sheer morbid hatred for another person to desist from committing any act or attempt against the law as provided under the Communication Act that: “a person who, by means of a licensed telecommunication system, sends a message or other matter that is grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character; or sends a message that he knows to be false for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety to another: Commits a crime and will suffer punishment as provided by the law,” read part of the warning.
It is extremely callous for one detached from sense of humanity to cause calculated, choreographed, planned, coordinated, conspired panic, apprehension, shock, devastation etc that may have far reaching consequences not limited to sudden risks to life.

As he ordered the investigation into the matter, Matiang’ i was reported to have stated that his family was had gone through pain after the news broke.
Kenyans were, however, not impressed by Matiang’i whom they accused of trying too much to show his power.
They argued that Kenyans all the time mock higher-ranking people in the government than him but they do not make it a big deal.
Some went on to give examples of how former President Mwai Kibaki has been killed on social media many times as well as Canada-based exiled Lawyer Miguna Miguna attacks President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM party leader Raila Odinga but they never say a word.
There are important things uncle Matiangi should focus on. The boys were wrong but dispatching DCI to Eldoret to arrest them was completely unnecessary. It's just the other day he refused to honour court orders on Miguna. In politics, you encounter such lazy gossip. Let them go. pic.twitter.com/6oODbpPVYs

Two suspects, including a form 4 student have been arrested for starting off the rumour that CS Matiangi had been admitted in ICU with Covid-19. I ask again, was this necessary?
