Kenyans who want to be ODM members can now register for free after ODM waived the membership registration fee for three months.
Edwin Sifuna, the ODM Secretary-General, explained that they decided to waive the fees after several people complained that they could not afford it. According to him, many people cannot afford the Ksh 100 fee due to the tough economic situation that the Covid-19 pandemic has caused.
“The ODM Leader HE. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga has directed us to waive the membership fee. Anyone wishing to join our party in the next three months can do so at no cost,” Sifuna said.
Sifuna also revealed that ODM has continuously been recruiting members. Consequently, there has been a significant increase in ODM party membership.
The Secretary-General urged Kenyans to take advantage of the three-month waive and register to be party members. He noted that by doing so, they could participate in nominations and grassroots elections.
Earlier this year, Sifuna had announced that the deadline for ODM party members to register as life members is August. Additionally, he said that for members to vie using the ODM party ticket, they needed to have been party members for at least one year.
The waiver is part of Raila Odinga’s plan to gain Kenyans’support ahead of next year’s general elections.
