KMTC girl ‘M-Pesad’ Ksh20, 000 by brother after alleging kidnap, found partying at Thika Rd Mall

Detectives are investigating an incident in which a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Nairobi campus student allegedly obtained money from her brother by raising a false alarm.

DCI said on Twitter on Friday that the learner, 19, had
called her brother to claim that she had been abducted and that her kidnappers
were demanding a Ksh20, 000 ransom.

The girl’s brother sent her the money via mobile money
transfer service, M-Pesa. Upon receiving the money, the teenager allegedly
switched off her phone, prompting her worried brother to report the
said-abduction to police.

It was then that detectives discovered that the alleged
abduction was fake, given the woman’s phone signal was traced to Thika Road
Mall in Roysambu, where she was partying.

Below is DCI’s tweet:

“Following an alleged yet suspicious abduction report of a
19-Year-Old KMTC- Mbagathi Student, DCI Detectives are interviewing a group of
university students arrested at Thika Road Mall including the alleged victim
and her boyfriend.

“This is after the lady was traced at a party in the said
mall, moments after calling her brother alleging that unknown people had
abducted her and were demanding for Ksh20, 000 to secure her release.

“The brother immediately sent the money to her phone after
which the phone was switched off. On receiving the report, SCPU detectives
launched forensic trails leading them to the party venue. While observing their
reactions, the boyfriend was contacted and asked to go and record a statement
with police on the issue.

“The lady immediately switched on her phone and called the
mother saying she had just been dropped at Galleria Mall in Karen. Upon arrest,
it was established that the Ksh20, 000 was still in her M-Pesa account.”
