Kenei’s fallout that led him to seek for transfer before his death

Several months before sergeant Kipyegon Kenei’s death, he had fallen out with Deputy President’s William Ruto close associates.

The fallout led to the officer contemplating transfer from Harambee House Annex. Investigators are still pursuing this perspective to find out who killed him.

A post-mortem which was set to take place on Monday 24 February 2020 was postponed since government pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor did not appear. The post-mortem was set for today, 26 February 2020.

According to police sources, former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa was received by Mr. Kenei. The sergeant accompanied Echesa to DP’s second-floor office on the day of his arrest.

One of DP’s secretaries did not understand how Echesa had gained entry to the office.

Detectives believe that Mr. Kenei was acting under official instructions from high ranking.

After Mr. Echesa’s arrest, there was a split between DP’s operatives and Mr. Kenei.

Even though Kenei had poor working relations with DP’s associates that had affected his work, he did not reveal that to his family.

The fallout led to Mr. Kenei seeking transfer from a Cabinet Secretary.

One of the confidant said, “Since CS was close to DP Ruto, he told Kenei that DP had confidence in him and will probably be elected to State House after General Election in 2022. The CS urged Kenei to continue serving Ruto as he would be appointed to a good position.”

According to the confidant Kenei was trusted by Dr. Ruto since he used to run errands in his Surgoi home.

Kenei’s father, John Chesang, urged DP Ruto to take charge of the investigations.

When Ruto called to condole the family, Mr. Chesang told him that he must answer the death of his son.

DP promised Chesang to have thorough investigations done.

Kenei’s family believes that by the time he was sending money to his wife and father, he was in captive for it to appear like a suicide.

Kenei had left enough money to his wife, and she wondered why he had to send more money. Also, the father was shocked to receive Sh 10, 000 from him since Kenei had given him money to buy goats and celebrate after the birth of their child.

Unfortunately, after the transactions, they could not reach him through the phone.

Before his social media pages were deactivated, he asked his wife for her photo and children via WhatsApp.

The confidant believes Kenei was living borrowed time, and it is just that the killers took advantage of Echesa’s saga to eliminate him.
