Makueni police boss transferred for allegedly covering up for his junior who chopped off lawyer’s hands

Francis Gichui, a Makueni police boss, has been transferred days after his junior, Constable Nancy Njeri, chopped off a lawyer’s hands leading to his death.

Reports indicate that the Makueni police boss has moved from the region. However, it is still unclear where the government transferred him to.

The transfer comes days after residents of Makueni county threatened to disrupt Mashujaa day celebrations if the government did not eject him from his position.

The residents claimed that Mr Gichui was trying to cover up for his junior Nancy Njeri. Nancy Njeri is facing murder charges after the unfortunate incident that led to the death of Makueni based lawyer, Onesmus Masaku. The policwoman allegedly chopped off his hands after an argument. The lawyer died while receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital.

The prosecution amended Njeri’s charges from grievous harm to murder charges after the lawyer passed on.

Makueni County Commissioner Mohammed Maalim confirmed that police boss Francis Gichui was no longer in Makueni County. He promised Makueni residents that they would apply the full force of the law on the issue.

Reports

Reports indicate that the Makueni based lawyer invited the policewoman to his house on claims that he wanted to introduce her to his girlfriend. On reaching the house, the policewoman realized that it was all a lie. Additionally, she claimed that the lawyer’s only intention was to lure her to his house.

Thereafter, a struggle ensued after the lawyer allegedly tried to rape the female police officer. enraged by his actions, the machete-wielding police officers chopped off one of his hands and severed the other. The lawyer succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

Other reports indicate that the police officer and the lawyer were estranged lovers. However, investigators are yet to establish whether it is true or not.

Nancy Njeri is currently in police custody awaiting arraignment in court.
