A middle-aged man has on Tuesday, October 20, strangled his 3-year old son to death before killing himself.
The resident of Naivasha, Nakuru County, identified as Daniel Kyallo, is reported to have committed the heinous act after he had an altercation with his wife of 5 years.
The area assistant chief Simon Koskei confirmed the incident and stated that the deceased had recently separated with his wife as a result of frequent marital quarrels.
Koskei added that the father of one was undergoing difficult times before the incident, something that might have prompted him to engage in such a shocking act.
According to the administrator, those close to the deceased said he appeared disturbed after his estranged wife left their matrimonial home a week ago.
The assistant Chief noted that Kyallo first killed his son by strangling him with his hands after which he used a wooden ladder to lower the body to a pit latrine that was still under construction.
He then tied a rope on the same ladder and hanged himself.
Their bodies were picked and taken to Naivasha Sub-county hospital mortuary by the police.
Since Covid-19 pandemic hit the country, cases of domestic violence have been on the rise with some spouses resulting in committing murder and suicide.
Earlier in the year, a man, Mwanza Kaloki, was under the Machakos police radar after he allegedly hacked his mother and niece to death after they quarrelled over a meal of ugali and eggs.
Health Chief Administration Officer Mercy Mwangangi had earlier announced that violence was on the rise and warned perpetrators that the government was watching them and the law will catch up with them.
The CAS said that people were stressed and depressed by the state of the economy with many losing their jobs and closing down the business and sited the frustrations as one possible cause of violence in families.
