May she truly rest in peace – Lupita Nyong’o mourns her late on-screen daughter

Celebrated Kenyan Oscar award-winning actress, Lupita Nyong’o has eulogized Ugandan teenage star Nikita Pearl Waligwa who she passed away.

Nikita who had been diagnosed with a brain tumor played as Lupita’s daughter Gloria in the 2016 hit movie dubbed Queen of Katwe. 

The Wakanda actress took to her Instagram page to eulogize Nikita who died at the age of 15. The talented actress stated that the teenage star was a sweet, warm, talented girl who played her role in their movie with such vibrancy.

“My thoughts and prayers are with her family and community as they come to terms with having to say goodbye so soon. May she truly rest in peace. May it be well with her soul,” read part of her post.

The movie Queen of Katwe which was based on a true story, revolved around a nine-year-old girl who took up the game of chess despite not going to school but went on to play internationally for her country. Nikita was first diagnosed with cancer in 2016. She was cleared in 2017 but after one year she was found to have had another tumor.
