Most married women are the ones seeking abortions – study reveals

Data from public and private hospitals in Kenya shows that 64.4 per cent of the patients who seek post-abortion care are married women.

This is according to an article by Wanja Mbuthia from The Standard.

Mwalimu King’ang’i was obviously flabbergasted and below is his reaction.

‘WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO DO THAT? PLUS YOU ARE MARRIED.

SURELY THOSE THINGS USED TO BE DONE BY UNIVERSITY STUDENTS SO THAT THEY COULD CLEAR SCHOOL. WHERE IS THAT COMING FROM?’

The research conducted by the African Population and Health Research Centre (APHRC) indicates over 465,000 induced abortions occurred in Kenya in 2012, which was higher compared to 2002.

According to the report, there were 48 cases in every 1,000 women in 2012 while 2002 had 45 cases in every 1,000 women.

Below are some of the reactions.

‘THAT STORY IS TRUE, MY FRIEND’S WIFE WAS PREGNANT AND THE HUSBAND DID NOT WANT THE BABY SO HE GAVE HER CASH TO GO TERMINATE IT.

OTHER WOMEN ARE CHEATING SO YOU DO NOT KNOW IF THE BABY BELONGS TO YOUR HUSBAND OR YOUR SIDE GUY.

YOU HAVE TO TERMINATE IT WITHOUT YOUR HUSBAND’S KNOWLEDGE.’

Another added,

‘MARRIED WOMEN ARE MORE PROMISCIOUS AND SINCE THEY ARE USED TO USING NO CONDOMS HENCE WANAENDELEZA HIO TABIA. SOME WIVES CHEAT MORE THAN HUSBANDS DO.’
