Nyeri Township MP laments after Jubilee loses Kiambu Woman Rep Wamuchomba to UDA

Nyeri Township Member of Parliament Wambugu Ngunjiri has reacted after Kiambu Woman Representative Gathoni Wamuchomba ditched President Uhuru Kenyatta-led ruling party Jubilee for United Democratic Movement (UDA), which is associated with Deputy President William Ruto.

The vocal MP and a staunch Jubilee member took to his social media platforms to say that despite Gthoni Wambuchomba exiting Jubilee and joining UDA, he still respects her and knowing her well, he was sure that she thought her move through and she believes she is doing the right thing.

Wambugu added that she does not agree with her move to join UDA, but it still does not change the respect he has for her.

He went on to wish her well, adding that he was now looking forward to engaging with each other politically.

“Hon. Gathoni Wamuchomba was a valuable player in our team. Losing her is regrettable,” read part of his statement.

The Nyeri Township lawmaker warned that as things stand at the moment, he will not be surprised if Jubilee loses another one or two valuable players.

He added that the ruling party members and officials have heavy lifting ahead to fix their party, adding that not everyone will want to do it.

He went on to urge those who still believe in Jubilee to take Wamuchomba’s move as a lesson and a warning.

He added that Jubilee party members should focus on what is important as they try to fix the problems the party is facing to avoid losing any more valuable players in the near future.

Speaking with one of the local media outlets, Wamuchomba explained that she has moved to join DP Ruto’s UDA party because that is where her people want her to be ahead of the 2022 General elections.

One of UDA’s members who led to welcoming her was nominated Senator Millicent Omanga.

One month ago, Gathoni Wamuchomba hinted at ditching Jubilee after the High Court ruled that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report was unconstitutional, null and void.

On Sunday, 23 May, the Kiambu County Woman Rep said that she had been on the ground, and her people were saying that they did not want to be threatened and were also celebrating the BBI nullification.
