The ODPP has called for the arrest of Malindi MP, Aisha Jumwa over misappropriation of CDF funds.
The Office of the DPP issued a statement ordering for the arrest of Jumwa and six others.
The arrest of Jumwa comes just days after the police also arrested Migori governor, Okoth Obado over similar allegations.
Over 57 million
According to the DPP, Jumwa is facing charges for fraudulently getting money through several companies, among them, Multserve Contractors Limited.
There were also Kaseru Constructions Limited, Bizcot Limited and Gadu stores. These companies, according to the statement, belonged to Jumwa’s proxies.
In total, the companies received over Ksh 57 million.
This was from, according to the ODPP, an ‘awfully flawed’ tender process, which had ‘irregularities’ and skewed in favour of Multserve.
Conflict of interest
According to the statement by the DPP, Multserve won the tender from Malindi Sub-County Education Office amounting to Kshs 19 million.
Out of these, Aisha Jumwa received 2.5 million. This, thus, amounted to conflict of interest.
“Evidence showed that Hon Aisha Jumwa Katana concealed the said amounts, being proceeds of crime, through depositing an installment towards the purchase of an apartment situated on L.R No. 2/289, along Argwings Kodhek Road in Nairobi,” The ODPP statement says.
The other six also facing charges with Jumwa are Wachu Omar Abdalla (Malindi CDF Account Manager), Kennedy Otieno Onyango Bernard Riba Kai.
There were also Sophia Saidi Charo and Margret Faith Kalume, who are members of the Malindi Tender Evaluation Committee. They also arrested Robert Katana Wanje, who is a Director at Multserve Contractors Limited.
Aisha Jumwa is one of the political allies of DP Ruto after falling out with ODM Party.
Big fish arrests
Jumwa’s arrest ends a week in which police also arrested Okoth Obado, Migori governor.
Obado is facing charges of stealing Ksh 73 million from the Migori County Government.
The police arrested Obado along with his four children, who were beneficiaries of graft.
