One Man, One Vote, One Shilling is the worst lie ever – Murkomen claims

Elgeyo-Marakwet County Senator Kipchumba Murkomen on Friday 18 September 2020 celebrated the fall of the one man one shilling formula for Counties Revenue Sharing Formula stating that it was just a lie being peddled.

The outspoken Senator took to Twitter one day after the Senate universally voted for a new formula that will apply between for the next five years.

The formula which had divided Senators took them a record 10 sittings for them to come to a common ground. Murkomen who was against the One man, One shilling formula along with some Mt. Kenya leaders stated that Senators were busy in the last four months dismantling the formula.

He added that Kenya is all about justice equity and fairness as that is the only way leaders can build a strong respectable one nation with one people under one God.

“One Man, One Vote, One Shilling is the worst lie ever peddled. In the last four months, we have demystified and dismantled it. Kenya is about justice, equity, and fairness. That’s how we shall build a strong respectable one nation with one people under one God,” the Senator tweeted.

The Senator was part of a group of Senators calling themselves “Team Kenya”. The group fought for the poor and historically marginalized Counties to get more resources in the revenue formula.

Murkomen also called out Kenyans who gave all the credit to president Uhuru Kenyatta for intervening in the stalemate by promising Ksh. 50 billion to Counties in the next financial year depending on the performance of the country’s economy.

He stated that President Uhuru Kenyatta was pressured by the Senate as it took some of the Senators being molested and harassed for the new formula to come into place.

“It is wrong for you to give credit to the executive, the executive has yielded to pressure from the Senate; it took some of us being molested and harassed,” he added.
