Westlands MP aspirant Nelson Havi has endorsed five ODM candidates vying for various elective seats in the August 9 polls.
“Five people in ODM I pray for and support in this election: James Orengo SC; Tom Ojienda SC; Millie Odhiambo; Dr Evans Kidero; and Robert Alai,” he tweeted on Tuesday.
Though Kidero is not an ODM candidate, he supports ODM leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid. Kidero is eyeing the Homa Bay governor seat on an Independent ticket.
Orengo is seeking the Siaya governor seat, Ojienda is the ODM candidate for the Kisumu Senate seat, Millie is seeking re-election as Suba North MP while Alai is the ODM candidate for the Kileleshwa Ward, Nairobi, seat.
Havi, who is a UDA member and candidate, said leadership should be based on values and service suggesting that the group fits the bill.
He noted that political parties should not be a reason why good leadership are overlooked.
“Leadership is about values and competencies. Often, Political Parties are vehicles of service, as their manifestos converge in some ways,” he added in the tweet.
Apart from Alai and Kidero the rest of the leaders endorsed by Havi are lawyers. Havi is a lawyer too and a former president of the Law Society of Kenya.
Kidero is a former Nairobi Governor who was ousted in 2017 by then Jubilee candidate Mike Sonko.
Alai is a blogger and more often uses his social media handles to advocate for issues of governance and comment on topical issues.
