Irate Kapseret residents block police from accessing Sudi’s home

Multi-agency police officers on Friday camped outside Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi’s home but failed in their attempt to arrest the MP.

The heavily armed police arrived in several pick-up vehicles and camped outside Sudi’s gate for over 4 hours. They had arrived with hopes that they would get to arrest the MP. To further compound Sudi’s misery, they switched off power at his home.

Logs, tractors block access

The move caused tension in the area, and when youths from Kapseret got wind of the information, they showed up in large numbers, actively working against the arrest.

The irate residents blocked roads leading to Sudi’s home with logs, stones and tractors, in a bid to stop the police from accessing Sudi’s home.

Shollei, Murkomen, condemn move

Uasin Gishu Woman Rep, Gladys Shollei, condemned the use of police in trying to intimidate Sudi, calling the act ‘irresponsible’.

“They had an opportunity to summon him to a police station or arrest him earlier in the day but they did not do it,” Gladys Shollei said, “By choosing to come in the night, it is extremely irresponsible of the police. What they are doing is causing unnecessary tension in the area.”

Kipchumba Murkomen also condemned the police, stating that they had an opportunity to arrest him on Friday afternoon. By going for him on Friday night, then, it ‘affirms malice’.

Rally in Eldoret

Indeed, Sudi had been in Eldoret on Friday afternoon, where he addressed a gathering in the town.

The police managed to break into the residency early Saturday morning. However, their search of the home revealed that the MP was nowhere to be found.

Sudi hit the headlines with his scathing attack on the Kenyatta family early in the week. This saw allies of the President come out with widespread condemnation.

President Kenyatta has come under criticism for failing to uphold the constitution.
